Ahhhh the winter people. You've described me to a T. What a lovely piece, Kelsey. Thank you for sharing. I also want to think of Christmas gifts, either good or bad, but am drawing a blank. What I can count on every holiday season, though, is a Rogers cream chocolate in my stocking--the round ones with the pink wrapping, filled with delicious sweet and coated in delectable dark chocolate. To this day, it's my favourite chocolate and I try to make it last as long as possible by slicing off little slivers to melt in my mouth! :)

Hmmmmm..this is such a good question! I think one of my favourite gifts was also from my dad…it was a chemistry set, complete with test tubes and a little Bunsen burner and bottles of …who knows what! We spent hours together making concoctions that resulted in mini explosions and foul orders and brilliant colours. He also gave me a soldering iron and a transmitter board to make a radio….also a lot of fun! But in truth, the best gift was a large cardboard box that we turned into a racing car….i had a pretty cool dad. Thanks for sparking those memories ❤️

Lovely! Sounds like the gifts were really about time with your cool dad.

Hi Kelsey, thank you for your stories and this opportunity to ponder the topic of Christmas presents. My father once bought us a parrot for Christmas. Every day for about two weeks leading up to Christmas, he'd give us a clue. It's bigger than a bread box. It's red and blue. Anyway, there was a lot of anticipation to the big reveal which was Christmas morning. Dad was excited about the present, but my mother got badly bitten in the first 24 hours, and we were just small kids -- a present we couldn't touch for fear that it would take off a finger wasn't exactly what we thought we were getting. The macaw stayed in our family long after us three kids fledged and made lives of our own. Only my father could handle it, and my sister. I guess what I liked best about this present were those days leading up to Christmas when we couldn't guess what it would be, and therefore it could have been anything.

This is a fascinating story Laurie! The days leading up when it could have been anything at all that was bigger than a breadbox and blue and red sound magical.

It was extremely satisfying to have you reason that it would be easier to carry it around all day and for five minutes eventually you would be thinking of something else. For some reason, that is the lesson I am taking with me for this one. Sometimes you can’t will something, you just need to keep on living and see what happens.

Omg. I want so badly to remember great gifts (there surely have been plenty!), but my mind keeps drawing big big blanks. I'll be back when I think of one!
